What to do if diagnosed with tachycardia? - tachycardia more condition_symptoms in dogs

I am a woman 21yrs was diagnosed several years ago about 3 years with tachycardia. My doctor took some tests and told me not to worry, that everything seemed in order. But my grandfather died of heart failure at age 67 and had diabetes, and I'm worried what will happen. What do I need to know if something to help slow my heart rate so as not something more serious?
